Questions for Dr. Tom Mason, CEO

WHAT IS THE CURRENT STATUS OF FUEL CELLS IN THE UK AND YOUR PROJECT IN PARTICULAR?

Fuel cells are predominantly at the technology demonstration stage in the UK, what traditional fuel cell technology’s lack is the ability to be cost competitive at low production volumes, this means that adoption has been slow and subsidy driven. Our technology is revolutionary in the materials, manufacturing techniques and structure of PEM fuel cells. As a direct consequence of this we are able to penetrate markets and displace incumbent technologies with competitive products. To this end we are currently developing our first market ready product which will launch in early 2018.

WHEN DID YOU FIRST REALISE THE POTENTIAL OF THE TECHNOLOGY YOU ARE WORKING WITH?

When I finished my PhD in 2013 I was given the opportunity of leading the engineering and manufacturing development of this exciting PEM fuel cell technology. It was immediately apparent to me that this technology solves key questions that needed answering in order to enable the wide spread adoption of PEM fuel cells and hydrogen as an energy vector.
